Sony AIT1 drive, part # SDX-400C, delivers unprecedented performance and low cost backup solutions in all data rich applications.  The drive delivers increased compressed capacity of 91 GB and 35 GB native capacity.  Data compression in AIT tape drives is performed at 2.6:1. Outstanding read/write accuracy is ensured by the AIT-1 drive at 10.4 MB/s compressed data rate.  Sony AIT-1 drive offers ultra-160 SCSI LVD (Low Voltage Differential) and SE (Single Ended) interface.  Part numbers of AIT-1 media tapes are:

AIT-1 drive is a smart choice for automated tape libraries.  You can easily integrate it into network servers and workgroups.  Sony has reduced the tape tension that results in improved data reliability, low error rate and extended head life.  Most impressive feature of Sony AIT-1 drive is its extraordinary head life of 50,000 hours.  On the other hand the Sony AIT-1 data tapes also feature astonishing useful life of 30,000 tape passes.

AIT tape format has set new industry standards.  Super head cleaner technology features in all generations of Sony AIT drives.  The core function of head cleaner technology is to automatically activate and clean the drive’s components after reaching a certain threshold for tape errors.  This also helps to reduce the human interventions and lesser use of cleaning cartridge.  Reduced periodic maintenance of Sony AIT-1 drive helps to lower the operational cost.  AIT cleaning cartridge designed by Sony for AIT-1 drive is “SDX1-CL”.  This AIT cleaning cartridge can be confidently used with all Sony AIT-2 and AIT-3 drives as well.

Fast searching and data access is vital in every data intensive environment.  That is why Sony has devised new MIC technology, which features in all AIT backup storage tapes.  MIC chip holds the data index, usage history and other information.  When you insert the cartridge in AIT drive, it extracts the MIC information.  MIC chip reduces the data searching and media load time to 27 seconds and 10 seconds respectively.  Increased buffer size of 10 MB and remarkable recording density of 116,000 bpi contribute to the improved data throughput during heavy duty cycles.
