How To Deal With Neighbors Who Cannot Keep It Quiet!

In every neighborhood, there is at least one home where the residents like to be loud. But noise can be a bigger problem if you live in an apartment. Your aim in that situation is to deal with loud neighbors. If you are successful in your attempt, you will make a great diplomat. In case you fail then again there is nothing to lose. You will simply learn a lesson about the art of war. So be brave and face the situation head on. Here are some tips to help you on the way.

• Be direct in your tone. Whenever you find your neighbors are getting too loud, just knock on their door and tell them politely. Tell them to keep it low. Most of the people are understands your problem and so they can curb the noise. This really works if you are already in good terms with your neighbors. Rarely, you will find people who are adamant and unwilling to listen.

• If possible maintain a log. Even after direct approach, if you find the noise continues then start keeping a written documentation. This way you will know the time and date of each occurrence. And also the number of times you had to bear loud noise.

• Give your neighbors some time to reconsider the thing that bothers you. After keeping silent for some days, write a note. Leave this note on their door asking them for the last time to keep the noise down. Don’t use a threatening tone but do inform them that you can complain to the land lord or take some real action if this continues. This way, they will realize how serious you are.

• After this last warning, report them to your apartment or area manager. Make verbal complaint at first. If you do not see any change then forward a formal written complaint. Do not forget to keep the copies of all documentation and letters with you.

• According to the law, neighbors are not allowed to keep this disruptive behavior. This gives you a right to call the police if they keep on bothering you despite all peaceful measures. Keep filing them if they continue to be loud. Every time you report them, they will be fined.

• Pull out the big guns if need be. File a case against them in the court. This has to be your last resort provided you can bear all the expenses. To strengthen your case, the documentations you have been keeping will be really valuable.

• Instead of filing a lawsuit against your neighbors, another safer option is to move. This time, search well to make sure that the new place has a quiet and peaceful neighborhood. Surely, you do not want to get in the same trouble all over again.
