Question About Ram Type.?
i have look around and found a lot.
i have a hp pavilion zd8124ea with 512mb ram. 2 x 256 infineon ddr2-sdram pc2-3200 (20MHz) SODIMM.i have 2 memory slots.
i can put max of 4gb ram (2gb in each slot)
my front side bus
width : 64 bit
real clock (dont know what it means do you ? ) 200MHz
effective clock: 800MHz
bandwich: 6400mb/s
memory bus:
bus type: dual ddr2 sdram
ect………………
north bridge properties:
supported fsb speed : fsb 533,800 ( can you explain ??)
supported memory type: ddr-333,400 ddr2-400,533
max memory amount : 4gb
ecc not supported.
i was wondering does this mean that i can only use ddr2-400 and 533 or i can use ddr2-667 and 800 sine the fsb says 533 and 800 ????
and does my bus only carry 800Mhz per memory or in total (as in 2 x 400mhz ??)

Real clock is the FSB clock speed, which corresponds with your RAM (DDR2-400 operates at 200MHz). RAM that runs at a higher speed (ie DDR2-533 running at 266MHz) would clock itself down to match FSB speed, so there’s really no point in buying it.
The other numbers seem inconsistent, I’ll admit, but that’s probably because I’ve been awake for 22 hours without any caffeine.
I pulled the service manual, and it says to use DDR2-400 (page 5-12, link below), so I’d go with that if I were you, and show the specs (from the original documentation provided with your laptop, not your typed copy) to a professional if you think I’m wrong.
