can i change pc600 rdram for pc800 rdram?
I want to upgrade my ram but can’t match what’s already installed.
Can i remove the existing moduals and fit 4 new matched ones.
I’ve got 2 x 128MB PC600 (non ECC) RDRAM Rimm and i want to install 4 x 256MB PC800 (ECC) RDRAM Rimm.
Whould this work if not why not, which numbers/ speeds would i have to match to make it work/ compatible with the rest of the system.
I now RDRAM is very expensive to get hold of but i don’t want to change the entire system, as although it’s 4 years old it’s got, 2100Ghz Pentium 4, 200GB dual hard drives, DVD & CD writter, USB 2.0, and firewire, surround sound and Nvidia 7800GS graphics card. And to replace now would cost a lot more than just the ram upgrade.
The only other think i would consider is a motherboard swap but this is quite involved and it be hard to match all the excisting componants.
To be honest, it actually would probably be cheaper to buy another board and a GB of DDR RAM considering just how expensive RDRAM is, as for the upgrade I think the speed is not an issue however the non-ECC to ECC might be. Anyway if you want help finding a motherboard I can probably help you, as that would be the better option to be honest.
